PHNET DNSSERVICES

Notes on the EDU.PH Registration Form

  1. On Email Addresses: Any changes to the domain registration data must be approved by either the technical or administrative contact person, regardless of who is requesting the modification. To confirm approval, our system sends an OTP to both contact persons and the user must type this OTP when requested by our system. It is therefore essential that these email addresses are functional and regularly monitored. We suggest using email addresses which are independent of your domain name to ensure they are not affected by problems with the domain name.

It is best to have two different email addresses for redundancy.

  2. On Phone Numbers: To preserve the privacy of the contact persons, our system does not show the phone numbers even if they exist in our database. Thus, the user must input the phone numbers every time this form is filled up. Note that PHNET relies on the email addresses, not the phone numbers, to contact the tech and admin contact persons.

  3. On DNS Servers: The form has entries for the names of the authoritative/primary DNS servers for the domain. If these terms are foreign to you we suggest reading this Wikipedia article about the DNS. Do not place your web servers, mail servers, or any other servers in this form (unless they are also functioning as the authoritative DNS servers for your domain).

    1. Two authoritative DNS servers are required. You may identify three additional servers by clicking on the "Add Optional DNS Servers" button.

    2. For those who are subscribed or plan to subscribe to the PHNET DNS Hosting Service, "gomez.ph.net." and "gabriela.ph.net." are the only DNS servers. Do not add any other DNS servers.

    3. Our system will append your domain name to every hostname which is not terminated with the "." (period). For example, given the domain name example.edu.ph., the hostnames ns1 and ns1.cloudflare.com (neither terminated with a period) will be converted to ns1.example.edu.ph. and ns1.cloudflare.com.example.edu.ph., respectively. However, ns1.google.com. (terminated with a period) will remain as is.

    4. If the DNS server hostname is under the domain name you are registering, then its IP address must be specified. This is known as a glue record which makes it unnecessary to do a DNS lookup for the IP address of the server. The record prevents a DNS lookup loop.

Otherwise, its IP address should not be specified. The IP addresses of such DNS servers are specified in the authoritative DNS servers of their domains, not in the EDU.PH DNS servers. If they are specified in the registration form, they will be discarded and not saved in the EDU.PH database.

  4. On Validation: After you click on the "Accept the Service Agreement and Submit Form" button, there will be two consecutive levels of validation:

    1. Our system will immediately email an OTP to the email address you used to identify yourself. You must type this OTP to validate your email address.

    2. After validating your email address, our system will immediately email another OTP to your technical and administrative contact persons. For modifications, these are the contact persons currently registered in our database, not the contact persons in the form. For new registrations, these are the contact persons in the form. You must type in the OTP to prove that you have been authorized by one of the contact persons.

    3. The registration form data will be saved to our database after the final validation.
